This is a free suite of security applications. The main ones... *Firewall -- excellent! a 5 *Defense+ -- this is a "classical" HIPS. Very powerful. The default settings are a bit weak. Skilled users should check them carefully. If tightly configured, I give this a 5 *Antivirus -- it's been re-done. The scan engine is better, but its heuristics are not there. Not there at all. Also, its Signatures database is still deficient in comparison with top tier AV programs. The Comodo AV is NOT ready for prime time. Not at all! a 2 During installation, you can opt out of installing the AV. I recommend that you do so. (Use a different AV - such as Avira or Avast). Also, do not accidentally sign up for the "Plus" (non-free) add-on. It is not worth paying for. Also beware the tool bar (a sort of spyware) -- the opt-out is hard to spot because they WANT you to miss it. My recommendation: do NOT miss it; opt-out of the tool bar for sure! If you opt-out of the AV & tool bar, & avoid the Plus stuff, then I give this security app a 5. But with the AV & the tool bar, I rate it a weak 3. I shall post the 5 because you WILL be careful, right? (^_^)

"If you opt-out of the AV & tool bar, & avoid the Plus stuff[...]" I second that comment. Just be careful when installing, and do not install the toolbar, do not sign up for the plus version. I wouldnt recommend using the AV either, but feel free if you want to e.g. as a secondary "backup" scanner)... I wouldn't use it as my primary AV. That being said, the FIREWALL ist top-notch, definitely the best one you can get right now, be it free or paid. My Ratings: Firewall: 5+ Antivirus: 3 Toolbar: 0

Superb firewall with HIPS component.... AntiVirus component needs more work... But it is FREE....

Finally, a usable Freeware security package. It has everything you need, and runs fast and reliably. The only downgrade is for the configuration being a little bit too complex. I think most users by far will be overwhelmed by the confusing array of options that could easily be condensed into a more user friendly form. If you're a geek like me, you'll love it just as it is. The firewall and AS module are great, the rules-based AV still has a way to go. Since there are 3 layers of security, the weak rules are more than compensated for. Remember the program is still in beta, and the rules will improve quickly. Give it a 4.5/5, and a big thanks to Comodo. Thanks Melih!

First: start with the premise that this is truly FREE software. I've used many of the parallel products on the market, all commercial, with some being quite expensive. Some of the best feature a slightly sharper anti-malware or anti-virus function, often with more frequent updating. As for the firewall function itself, I am comfortable holding it up against any of the commercial products for comparison. Two things I really like: (1) services and resident programs can be shutdown to minimize drain on the system while playing local games, processing sound files, or transferring large numbers of files. I have found no other program that allows such a trimming-down for local safe activities. (2) there are no 'reminders' during daily operation that there exist more powerful or feature-laden versions of the 'free' product, such as pop-ups while updating, etc. Conceptually, Comodo asks that users support various revenue-producing programs to keep the software free. These are ALL optional, including search page, etc. To the best of my knowledge, there is nothing tricky happening here, simply trying to generate revenue through methods that are transparent and harmless to the user. Why do you think Firefox defaults to their own home/search page? By RC2 this was quite bug-free, and I have had no conflicts with either SpyBot or Ad-Aware, both of which I continue to run resident.

simply the best security app for xp and vista. bad luck for competitors : it's a freeware. i dont use the antivirus. firewall and defense+ installed. defense+ will prevent user from malwares undetected by most AV. and AV unable to detect new malwares is so important, if it's going on like that, AV will become totaly useless. i find undetected malwares all the time, but on virustotal.com, there are always 5 engines on 36 able to detect dangerous code. my AV fails often, i send the code, they send a tanks reply and update the base fast but it's time for me to change my engine. certainly F-secure cause it's always there to alert about malwares as the wellknown AV used by most people fail all the time. defense+ shows me what will do the file if i would decide to allow it. and at the moment, this type of protection, prevention, is showing the failure of detection protection, u're alerted about what will do the file as detection just says it detected no danger. so if u trust your AV uptodate when it tells u the file is ok, u're completly wrong, most of AV are easy to bypass, just search on google how u can bypass AV detection with packagers especially here to make AV scanning impossible with lines code that send AV from line to line thousand times so if the AV doesnt stop the scan, the operation would never stop and possibly crash the engine so the AV decides to stop the scan and tells u no virus detected instead of inform u it was unable to scan the file. if u think i'm just telling craps, i can send u any known virus repacked and u'll see your engine unable to detect it. then when u'll launch the file, u'll see it was no craps, the prob is, if it's some very bad code, your kernel will be corrupted so deep with hidden process, hidden regkeys, always changing, able to hide in the cpu then the acpi module of your bios when u turn off the machine so when u turn on, the rootkit is loaded before the OS and will totaly control the system. this type of rootkit is so hard to cl

I've been impressed with Comodo Firewall, so I tried to install this. The upgrade was completely impenetrable. Unfortunately, CIS cannot install if you have Comodo Firewall. If you try, you get a message telling you that you have two options. You can uninstall CPF, lose all your configuration information, and start from scratch. Or, you can go to www.comodointernetsecurity.com, and "download an upgrade application which will upgrade existing installation to COMODO Internet Security". The application isn't named, and no link is supplied. Of course, their web site does not mention any such application. The word "upgrade" doesn't appear in the release notes for CIS. The CIS user guide doesn't acknowledge any such upgrade process, either. And five minutes of hunting through their support forums and download lists turns up nothing, either. CIS may be better than CFP for new users, but current CPF users are better off waiting until an upgrade process appears, I think.

Although I think CIS is great so far, I'm disappointed that they chose to mention an "upgrade application" when none seem to exist... like the user below I wasted precious minutes looking for it. As a workaround, you can export your CFP settings, uninstall CFP, install CIS, then import your saved settings to CIS... that worked for me.

@bobad this CIS is now final. :) Anyway, This is the only and first free Security Suite offering you 3 layers of Security: Firewall, Defense+ (HIPS) and the Antivirus. You can install COMODO Firewall & COMODO Antivirus using the same setup, the Antivirus is COMODO Antivirus 3 (CAV 3), and is still young, But that's why you can choose not to install it if you wish and keep your existing AV. :) I am sure over time, the AV will mature and I believe in that as a Global Moderator on the forums. CIS 3.5 also has less pop ups, and is more stable and responsive to Alerts, and It will only get better because in the future, BOClean will be integrated, Along with Sandbox to reduce pop ups even further! CIS has potential, So my final ratings are: Firewall: 5 Defense+: 5 Antivirus: 3 I give it 5 because you choose to opt out anything, and customize CIS to max.

If people not make virus in first place you don't need this hacker wares

Rated 30/50 by darthbeads at Oct 26, 2008

blahman2005, my god, you're right! Now if only Dell, HP, Compac, IBM and all the rest would just stop making all these damn computers, then we wouldn't need any of these pesky programs! Think before you say something stupid next time. ---------------------------------------------------- I agree with the general consensus on here -- Comodo Firewall is a terrific freeware security product. If they could get their AV up to the same standard, this would be an outstanding security suite. However, after briefly running a clean install of CIS I started getting the incredibly obnoxious Google "Error 403 (http://www.google.com/se...=google+error+403)" whenever I did a Google search. After uninstalling CIS and reverting to a clean install of CFP, no more "Error 403". So, to summarize: +5 stars for a great firewall and for a clean packaging of a suite. -1 star for a sub-par AV. -1 star for the "Error 403" nonsense. Despite a lukewarm rating, I think this product has great potential and will watch its development closely.

Excellent!! Version 3.5.54375.427 : 29th Oct, 2008 * FIXED! CFP.exe checks for subscription status every time it is started * FIXED! CFP.exe crashes when filename is clicked on popup windows

Excellent free suite! This release fixes a couple of minor bugs. The low ratings are perplexing. Obviously, those rating the program low have never used it, and most likely have an agenda. The other 2 major beta sites rate it well over 4/5.

5 Stars for the best (free) Firewall.

Comodo Internet Security is stable and excellent internet security suite. I tried other suites and this is my favorite mainly because it has everything I was looking for and its totally free. Pros: 1. Setup was easy and ran without incident on XP it asked me to reboot at the end. 2. Interface is top-notch 3. Price can't be better... its free! 4. Features are comprehensive and intuitive 5. Performance is better than some Internet Security suite out in the market. Con: 1.Does not have Game Mode like the product I was using before. "ZoneLabs Internet Security Suite" 2. Offers security updates only once a day. IMO that is more than enough

very nice all in 1 with no bloat :) ninjeratu the anti virus is pretty good . I have a triple boot installed the comando on the Vista one just to try it out and I have Avira installed on the XP boot . Comando picked up stuff Avira missed and Avira is one of the top 5 virus programs. I did not get 1 false positive. The interface is plain and simple , so what the hell are you talking about?

This software is incredible and not memory hog! You wont regret having this A/V Firewall on your side.
