OpenOffice.org is the open source project through which Sun Microsystems is releasing the technology for the popular StarOffice productivity suite. It is an international office suite that will run on all major platforms and provide access to all functionality and data through open-component based APIs and an XML-based file format. It establishes the necessary facilities to make this open source technology available to the developer community.

"Does everything Microsoft Office does and more." It's easy to use, you can save in Microsoft formats if you want, plus others. And, it's free and constantly evolving. The lack of a program similar to outlook. However, that is available through another company. With the open code, people are writing new features as the product evolves. If you like MS Office, then you will have no trouble using this product.

"fast and smooth" loads and saves many formats nothing bad so far. Works in Win 7, unlike a few of my older programs. Makes slide presentations and can save them as Power Point format, although I don't know why anyone would want to.

"Better THan MS Office!" THe fact its just as good as any office software if not better stable and reliable! Just as many features as any of those paid ones! Cons none really The only cons is that is not more Open Office users! I think this is an excellent example of how good open software can be.

"Intuitive functionality" Controls and shortcuts for word processing documents are thoughtfully laid out and just make sense where they are. None that I could find. Great program. Works well, does all that expected and is easy to use.

"Free document software that matches Microsoft Office." Does everything you could want a document suite, and for free! Compatible with most every document format. Slow to load. Great free program to write or work with all kinds of documents, even for those who can afford Microsoft Office!

"terrific product" This program makes working in my OpenOffice documents a breeze using my smaller netbook which does not have the capacity to hold Open Office. Using Open Office portable lets me use my documents without transfering them to another type of document. There are no cons.

"still learning to use it" its awesomely free!!! not a thing It appears to be an easy program, but I'm really not familiar with anything like it, so I'm still learning. Other folks who use MS Office say this is just as good, so I take it as a good sign! Thank you for a free, easy to use product!

"Can't be beat at any price" Power to preform even the most complex tasks and the price cannot be beat. I would like to see a lighter version for us average people.

"It's easy to use." I like it because it's just like microsoft office in many ways. In many ways, it's easier to use than microsoft office. It doesn't have as many bells and whistles on that you have to figure how to use. I don't like it because I'm never sure if what I'm sending is going to be compatible with the other computer's software.

"Great Program" As opposition to Windows Professional for writer, excel etc a great program Still very slow to load when you initially open the program I love the lay out and ease of use, but still think it is slow to respond on loading and opening.

"It's free but you're not getting an inferior program." The 2 best things are that the program is free and included is the ability to convert your files to PDFs without having the buy an expensive program. Some of the functions are a bit convoluted. The drawing, for example, takes more steps to get something done than a comparable program. The other thing is that you need to convert a file or document to PDF to be able to email it. I like the product a lot, but it takes some practice figuring out some of its functions. It's not as similar to Word as it seems.

using the draw program was able to quickly and easily make scetches and diagrams. I do notice a slight pattern of blocks instead of an even flow of lines. I was able to quickly and easily learn and use. The weakness I experienced is probably just an issue I need to learn to use the feature properly but I was unable to use fine detail in setting lines and items. The program tended to use a block pattern like a grid. Going to continue to learn the features of the draw before continueing on with the word aspect which I was familair with in the previous build of open office.

Now works with MS Docx s documents. Stability issues and a variety of models have been completed and now work. Appears very close to MS Office 2003. Power Point Equivalent and Flow Charts still requires a little work I have a MacBook Pro and have been watching this software improve in all the right ways. With each update, OOo comes much closer to becoming user friendlier and adds more features. The most important program in an office suite is the word processor and then the spreadsheet for me. I think they have now made a wonderful suite that can satisfy most peoples needs. Some work needs to be done on the Flow Charting as well. The documents format makes is take less space and more secure. Password protection for each document or all document is also a nice added feature. This is what happens when Microsoft does everything possible to crush the competition and refuses to invest it's own R&D to innovate. A team of companies get together and move to take over that place with a better business model. Microsoft has let it happen and other than add docsx , functionality (that was stolen from another company, nothing except the ribbon has changed. In the meantime the project goes on. This update can keep me going. I look forward to the next update to word.
