KillProcess 2.44

KillProcess by Orange Lamp Software Solutions Screenshot KillProcess Screenshot

KillProcess can terminate almost any process on a computer including any service and process running in the system. Even protected Microsoft system processes can be terminated. All of this can be done in the matter of milliseconds. The speed that it can kill your applications with is determined by your computer speed and is not restricted by any other settings within the OS itself.

Decent interface. I tried to end firefox.exe when it froze. This program made a big explosion sound and removed firefox.exe from its process list, but the process was still running. When I restarted the program, firefox.exe was back in the list. Same problem with pdf reDirect. What gives!

Not working under Vista.

To guti: This program is not meant for just ending normal processes, its meant to end processes that will not end (for example spyware/adware applications that refuse to close). I prefer to use Unlocker, although you need to browse to the process' folder to close it.

I suposed it was a review of KillProcess, and not Vista, war593122. Going to that util, does what it says, and does it well. In my case, this utility is not useful, since for killing process, for me is enought Task Manager, or Process Explorer, and the performance information in those two, is quite complete.

Vista sucks anyways!

You cannot "kill any process with Process Explorer". My good friend darthbeads will be upset to find out that some malware processes and system processes as well are resistant to being killed by Process Explorer.

It looks like why hello there is off to a trolling spree lately. Anyone who has ever actually installed and used Process Explorer knows, for a fact, that you have the full ability to kill any process with it. That is, in fact, one of the primary functions of the program. When you take your mommy, in whose basement you live in, out to her Mother's Day brunch, ask her for a gift certificate to the Clue Store -- maybe they'll be able to help you?

"just what i needed and then some" killed what i needed to kill. bamn! just like that, and you can turn the kill sound off. have not found a way to make it the task manager default.

"Very good program" We have used this program on all of our home computers ever since it came out. It can be set to auto load on Windows start up and has many tweaking features so you may set it up to work as you like it including sounds. It has a small foot print and for those rare times you might stumble into a site with a pop up window which will not go away or allow you to close your browser you can open this from the task bar and end the browser from there. If you use Firefox and the crash restore utility just remember not to restore your last session or you will just be back where you were. All in all this is a program everyone should have a use for those times things just will not end. Doing computer repair from home I install this program on every customers system and show them how to use it.

I can't do a real eval of this as I've currently no protected (Can't be killed by taskmanager, PRCView, Process Explorer or that other one) apps to kill, especially none that are out of control and causing the system to take subjective hours (20 seconds?) to respond to a mouse click. Works fine for killing Notepad and MPlayer, works better in semi-vicious mode with sounds off. I love the list feature--Clean OS could be very useful in list info's default mode, and since lists can be edited I could add, say, Comodo, WinPatrol, Admuncher... to the list to make it even better for just my personal preferences. Hmm, I wonder whether a malware author could edit those lists, naah, and if so isn't like I wouldn't notice and kill those apps anyway. Note that this is not for the type off people who shouldn't be trying beta vers.

@darthbeads, Wake up, ProcessExplore does not kill every app running, it kills the same as the Task Manager. In stall Avast 4.8 pro and reboot, try killing the ashdisp.exe, it won't happen.

"Doesn't work" Nothing; doesn't work Can't stop hung processes. Killprocess was unable to stop hung processes on my system. I'm running WinXP SP 3. This program is useless.

I wish I had discovered this site in time to join the argument regarding Process Explorer and process termination. I find it hilarious that someone actually thought PE could kill any process. If you believe that, you must not have a decent AV program installed, and you must not know about the other applications that prevent themselves from being terminated easily. It's somewhat common, actually. KillProcess uses special techniques that enable it to kill many more things than PE can. Most people don't need it and this kind of power can bring down your whole system. Still, powerful utility.

Can't comment on this as I use file assassin for 'killing' processes but it has the added option of deleting them which apparently neither this nor process explorer has.

Not a bad program, but loses one star because the "remember window size on exit" doesn't actually remember the window size on exit.

"Only stops processes that Process Manager already stops" Just like adding a toupee to a Yak. See comment above. Futile when most needed. Like adding chain mail to kevlar. Like adding a prop engine to an F18. Like putting in a swamp cooler in an industrial clean room wafer fab. Just like adding a toupee to a Yak. Getting the drift, yet?

I have compared this to Process Explorer and while it is missing most of the features PE has it's advertised as having the ability to end any process or service including protected Microsoft processes. Window's built-in Task Manager won't let you end those but both PE and KillProcess will so this doesn't offer any advantage over PE. If you have Norton AV products running on your system there is a protected process called Ccsvchst.exe that cannot be terminated with either KillProcess or PE. Summary: Good, no advantage over PE which offers more information for each running process. Would be a 5 if it could end ANY protected process.

"Should be NO stars! This program is TOTALLY worthless." NONE! There are no pros about this program at all! It kills applications that need to be running and shuts down your comp if you're not careful. Totally pointless!

We have been running this program on all four XP Pro computers in our home for well over two years and have never had any problems with it. It will stop a process many times when the task manager will not and none of our machines have ever crashed. We have found nothing to dislike. Plain and simple...it works.

None really. It doesn't do what it claims to do. I'm trying to use it to kill scan32.exe (McAfee Anti-Virus). KillProcess does absolutely nothing when I tell it to kill the process. Not even an error message.
