Norton is gone! Pain in the behind, and the fact we even need a tool to uninstall says it all. Norton (Symantec) is the devil! I hate their company and will never buy anything related to it. As for this software It sucks, but I got it to work. (Sad you even have to go through this crap!) Anyway, I had to run msconfig and disable USC (User Account Control) which forces users that are part of the local administrators group to run like they were regular users with no administrative privileges. (stupid function) The reason I had to disable USC is the link that you need to click on after you arrive to the page stating "The version of Norton Removal Tool you are using has expired," (sheesh) kept telling me that I needed to sign on as administrator. (Duh, I am the admin and was signed on as such) Then I disabled my firewall. This tool only removes certain versions of which apparently came pre-installed on the machine I was cleaning up for a friend. What a mess... Good luck. (bovinedung)

Can anyone say PEBKAC? If Symantec software won't uninstall the normal way then it's probably a mistake the user made, not Symantec's mistake.

to funny they have to create a tool to remove their own crap, as the other guy said it's the best thing they ever made

"ONE MORE REASON TO HATE NORTON EVEN MORE" Norton are the pros really in conning people. Norton is too smart to allow you to remove it from your system. It will only remove Norton from your system if you have purchased a new version and enter the licensed serial number. I still have pop-ups that don't allow me to use firefox and I know it's Norton's cheap gimmick in the name of Internet Security. I'm through with Symantec and will never purchase Norton Anti-Virus again. God, plese help me get rid of Norton!

Does exactly what it advertises - and is fairly thorough. Doesn't get ALL Norton traces, but 99% ain't bad. And it's a helluva lot better than CA (no removal tool that works), AVG (broken removal tool), McAfee (not bad, but not as good as Norton) or ZoneAlarm (none and uninstaller doesn't work more often than not). For those bagging Norton - probably worth trying it again. It isn't 2006 anymore, and Norton's 2009-2010 product is arguably the fastest integrated product on the market (NIS, not 360).

I tried this today, on the SAV Corp. version, and the thing insisted that I use Add/remove programs to remove the application, which wasn't working to begin with, and the reason for using this to begin with.. -- I had to go through the system, and kill it manually. then ran it again, and there was still a ton of Symantec junk in the system folders, and registry.,.

Only 5 star review i ever saw here. This does the job. You never see a removal tool for McAfee, which uninstalls with ease if u have to. So whats that telling you.

Best Symantec product ever, takes about a fifth of the time compared to the standard uninstallers too.

"Useless and Expired" There are no pros When you download this "tool" you'll get a message "this tool is expired please visit the Norton's (rather crappy) website. Don't waist your time...Good luck getting rid of Norton!

A good tool for removing one of the most intrusive pieces of software ever made, next to maybe 'Real player' of five years ago. I wouldn't put Norton on my worst enemy's PC... Well maybe on just one persons PC. Do yourselves a favor & use Eset, removed in 2 minutes flat, if you would ever wont to remove it that it.

"highly recommended to norton non-users" completely removed all norton's pc resource, eg, ram, cpu, crunching application that's really taking its heavy weight toll on an old laptop serviced & total deletion of 'symtdi.sys' causing BSOD to normal system boot process for the umpteenth time! absolutely none even if norton offered a good working link where an updated version to supersede an expired (yet existing?) removal tool/software; norton's being fair enough to issue/publish such an indispensable removal tool/software to completely delete norton's application on any pc, eg, installed as an OEM bundled software;

It thoroughly cleans norton out of your system. none hat I'm ware of. I owned three other computers that I eventually trashed and each one retained remnants of un-operable norton tools that continued to remind me of things that I could no longer execute because I refused to pay their outreagous prices then I was told that you can't get all of norton out of your system once it's installed then I ran upon this (as my newest computer had norton in it) and after uninstalling through conventional means I followed through with this removal tool and to date no pop-ups, no indications during system information and most importantly, no remnants in my registry.. It's a very good free product.

I can see why someone would want to use this to fix a damaged installation of a Symantec product, but why in the world would someone be insane enough to not want a Symantec product (such as Norton Antivirus)? Symantec makes the fastest and most accurate antivirus, firewall and system utility software ever created and they always have. Unless you're broke why go for inferior free software (such as AVG) instead of Symantec software?
